Public Testimony: Keep Cell Phones Out of Schools
On January 21st, 2026, SB69 was discussed in committee. Kristin Andrus shared the following:
“…And when we’ve talked about safety concerns, it’s been very apparent that our kids are actually safer without cell phones. I think we are so highly dependent and some things that have been said today, I think that is actually the problem. The problem is our kids cannot get through a two-hour class or walking the halls without calling mom or dad—that is a problem. And as Emily [Bell McCormick] noted, we are the adults. We must take action. This is far too late. We are years too late. Here in Utah we have led the way and we must lead the way here too. We must show up for our children because we’re already in a bad place with these phones.
So let’s do better, at least when they’re in school so they can learn.
I’m very supportive of this bill along with many other women that I speak for.”
