Happy Father’s Day! 10 Life Lessons My Dad Taught Me
My dad, Doug Moore, has taught me how to show up, serve, lead with faith, and tell a great story.
Here are 10 life lessons I’ve learned from him—ones I carry with me every single day.
Storytelling is a Superpower. Whether it was a bedtime tale or a business pitch, my dad could spin any moment into magic. He taught me that stories connect us, move us, and matter.
Show Up—Always. From high school math meltdowns to my kids’ biggest milestones, he was there. Not just when it was convenient—always.
Believe Boldly. He believed in me long before I believed in myself. When I said I wanted to be a stockbroker just like him, he didn’t blink. He told me I’d be the best one yet—and meant it.
Faith First. He taught me that Jesus Christ isn’t just a Sunday thing—He’s a life thing. My dad’s quiet discipleship and ability to draw on the powers of heaven have shaped my faith more than any sermon ever could.
Lead With Service. Service was never a checklist for my dad—it was a lifestyle. He gave joyfully, daily, and instinctively. That legacy lives in everything I try to do.
Success Comes From Heart Work. He’s the best salesman I’ve ever known. But it wasn’t just his charisma—it was his ability to see people and solve problems. I like to think I inherited a little of that.
Saturday Chores Build Character (and Appetite). He made sure we knew how to work hard—then rewarded us with a fresh donut. Somehow, that’s still my love language.
Kindness Wins. He leads with kindness, always. Generosity, thoughtfulness, and integrity—he doesn’t just preach it, he lives it.
Second Chances Matter. He showed me the grace of forgiveness, the beauty of fresh starts, and the power of choosing love, again and again.
Mentorship is Legacy. He never hoarded his wisdom. Whether it was with me, a neighbor, a young associate, or a grandchild—he mentored, uplifted, and taught. Because that’s who he is.
