The Power of Midlife Hobbies in Gathering

Heading home from a golf tournament for Rising Star Outreach—an organization close to our hearts. As I spent time on the course today, I kept coming back to the unexpected gift that hobbies like golf can have in this second season of life. And if I’m being honest, I haven’t always seen it this way.

You can look at golf, tennis, pickleball, or Mahjong and see something frivolous. A way to pass the time. But I see something else.

I see women choosing growth.
I see laughter and learning and losing balls in the bushes.
I see courage in showing up to something new.
I see sisterhood, even when we don’t keep score.
I see connection—after a decade (or two) of carpool lanes being the main place we found it.

This isn’t about perfect form or a single-digit handicap. It’s about finding joy in something that is just for you. That stretches you, surprises you, and reminds you that you are still becoming.

So here’s to midlife golf tournaments. To Mahjong nights. To tennis lessons and art classes and book clubs that may or may not talk about the book. They’re not a side note. They’re sacred. And they’re stitching us back to ourselves—and to each other.
